This website, joyaugust.com, is operated by Joy August, a certified breathwork coach offering breathwork, shadow work, and soul coaching in Henderson, NV and online. This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.
It covers this website only — not the separate scheduling service used to book calls, and not any coaching relationship you enter into afterwards.
The short version
- The only information you actively give this site is what you type into the contact form.
- That message is emailed to Joy. It is not sold, rented, or shared for advertising.
- There is no account to create, and no payment is taken on this website.
- Analytics are used to understand how the site is found and used.
Information you give us
The contact form asks for your name, your email address, what you are interested in, and your message.
The form also contains a hidden field that human visitors never see or fill in. It exists only to catch automated spam, and anything submitted into it is discarded.
Health and other sensitive information
Breathwork and shadow work are body-based practices. If you write to Joy, you may choose to describe your health, your nervous system, past trauma, medication, or a period of religious or spiritual change.
Information about health and about religious belief is treated as a special category of personal information under data protection law in the UK, the European Union, and several US states. Three things are worth being direct about:
- You decide what to share. Nothing in the form requires you to disclose your health history. A few sentences is enough to start; detail can wait for the call, where Joy will ask what she needs to know in order to work with you safely.
- Where it goes. Your message is delivered to Joy by email through the providers listed below. It is not published and not used for advertising.
- What it is not. This is a coaching practice, not a licensed medical or therapy practice. What you send is not a medical record. It is not protected by HIPAA, and no therapist–client privilege applies.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, this one records technical information when you visit — including your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, and the site or search that referred you.
When you submit the contact form, your IP address is used to limit how many messages can be sent from one address in a short period, and — where the anti-spam check is switched on — is passed to Cloudflare to confirm the submission is not automated. It is used for those checks and is not stored alongside your message.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not set cookies of its own. It does load Google Tag Manager, which may place cookies from Google Analytics or similar measurement tools to count visits and understand which pages are useful.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings and the site will work normally. Most browsers also offer a "Do Not Track" setting; there is no agreed industry standard for responding to it, so this site does not respond to it differently.
Who processes your information
Joy does not sell your information. A small number of providers handle it in order to run the site and deliver your message:
- Cloudflare — hosting, security, spam prevention, and delivery of this site.
- Resend — delivers your contact-form message to Joy by email.
- Google — tag management and website analytics.
- TidyCal — used to book calls. Following the booking link takes you off this site, where TidyCal's own privacy policy applies.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or where necessary to protect someone's safety or to establish or defend a legal claim.
How long it is kept
Contact-form messages are kept in Joy's email for as long as they are needed to answer you and, if you become a client, to support that work. You can ask for your message to be deleted at any time and it will be, unless there is a legal reason it must be kept.
Anti-spam records tied to your IP address expire automatically within a short period.
Your choices and rights
You can ask Joy to:
- tell you what information she holds about you;
- correct it if it is wrong or incomplete;
- delete it;
- stop using it for a particular purpose; or
- provide a copy of it.
Depending on where you live these may be legal rights rather than courtesies — for example under the UK and EU GDPR, or under state privacy laws in the United States. Either way the request is handled the same: use the contact form and say what you would like done. You will not be charged, and you will not be treated differently for asking.
Children
This website is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 16 and Joy does not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent information through this site, please get in touch and it will be deleted.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection and messages reach Joy over encrypted channels. No website can promise perfect security, and email is not a confidential medium — worth bearing in mind when deciding how much health detail to put in writing before you have spoken to Joy.
Other websites
This site links elsewhere, including social accounts and a scheduling tool. Those sites have their own privacy policies and this one does not apply to them.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated. When the substance changes, the "last updated" date at the top changes with it.
How to contact us
For anything in this policy, including a request about your information or a complaint, please use the contact form. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may be able to complain to a data protection or consumer protection authority where you live.
